The European Summit will be held in Brussels at the European Council 28-29 June 2012 and chaired by Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. Van Rompuy intends “to signal, in a clear and concrete manner, that we are doing everything required in response to the crisis”.
To achieve this, he stresses, it will be necessary to:
- endorse country-specific recommendations to guide our policies and budgets
- adopt the “Compact for growth and jobs”
- launch the final phase of the work on a new Multi annual Financial Framework (MFF)
- set the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) on a new path.
Several foreign policy issues will also be addressed. The second working session on Friday morning will be followed by a Euro area summit luncheon.
Please pray for the proper hand off from Denmark as it ends it’s six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union, to Cyprus who will have the six-month presidency July 1 – December 31, 2012.
Pray for peace in the city of Brussels, and especially the European Quarter as areas around the Council building are blocked off from normal car, bus, metro and foot traffic for security reasons, appearing much like a war zone.
Pray for the national leaders who will be attending the summit, and for the decisions they will be making.
